Forming the story
Preview
- pick an event (e.g., concert, play, sporting event, etc.)
- find someone who is involved with the event (e.g., actor, athlete, etc.)
- arrange an interview with that person
- use materials to compose a feature that mentions the event and uses the questions and answers to inform readers about it
Review
- pick an event (e.g., concert, play, sporting event, etc.)
- compose a piece about what occurred there (perhaps referencing other events that are similar, the comparison with which will enhance reader’s understanding/enjoyment of the event)
Feature
- find a person/item/place that presents an interesting story
- interview/discuss the person/item/event, making sure to point out what makes it “special“ (which will also justify your pitch)
“Thought” piece
- pick a topic with many aspects/possible sides
- establish a premise about the topic
- arrange interviews from people who are familiar with the various aspects or who espouse the various sides
- compose a piece that explores the topic through the various perspectives
