Does Your Dog Speak Hebrew? A book of animal sounds
By Ellen Bari (Kar-Ben)
As my daughter wants to be the first rabbi/veterinarian on Mars, I just had to investigate when I saw this book! And while it is brief and offers but a few samples of the myriad sounds that populate our natural world, it is a cute and clever primer on how the onomatopoeic interpretations we have in the USA translate in the Jewish State. From dogs to frogs (“tzefardeah” – like in the Seder) and birds to cows, the book introduces animal names and the sounds they make and also includes a seek-and-find game for visually observant readers. It may not help my daughter get into vet school, but it will surely make Hebrew school more fun!
